I’ve always stood by my stance that any cover of another song should sound nothing like the original (think Ben Folds’ “Bitches Ain’t Shit” or Gary Jules’ “Mad World”) and this cover from 19 year-old singer/songwriter Zach Heckendorf is vastly different than the original, but in the best way possible. When he first debuted this track at the Gothic Theatre in his hometown of Denver, Colorado a few months ago, the energy in the venue was electric as the talented musician won over the crowd with his amazing guitar playing and unique take on the Dr. Dre and Eminem classic. Above, check out him playing the song at Sundance, and make sure to look out for an official release of the song coming soon.
