DANKLES: Give us the basics; name, age, where you’re from and how you got started producing music under the name CRNKN?

CRNKN: Gabe Baer, 19, and I’m from woodsy / lakesy New Hampshire. CRNKN began after I took a long backpacking trip and returned home with no money, no job, etc. So I started making music with all of that free time

DANKLES: What was it like working with the very mysterious UZ (︻╦╤─ ƱZ ─╤╦︻)?  Can you give us any details on who this person might be?

CRNKN: UZ is a FANTASTIC producer that knows a lot more than I do, and is an extremely nice person. Didn’t you know we’re all UZ though? That’s all I got on that subject.

DANKLES: You’re originally from the mountains of New Hampshire, and you just recently moved to L.A.  How was that transition for you, are you excited to be in one of the most influential places for music?

CRNKN: Yea, it’s been pretty crazy. I really love both places, they both have their own things going on. Out here in LA its pretty possible to get in the studio every day of the week with someone I’m a huge fan of. If not, I can just go to the beach and get sunburnt like a muhhhhh F.

DANKLES: In your opinion who are your favorite trap artists right now?  Are there some people that nobody knows about that you are all about?

CRNKN: Well, I’ll leave the obvious ones out and just tell you my fave artists that you may have not heard of. Branchez, Big Makk, gLAdiator, D!RTY AUD!O, ETC!ETC! + Brillz (respectively), HEROES X VILLAINS (Daniel Disaster), and Bro Safari have all been stepping correctly lately. They’re all super great, and super nice dudes too.

DANKLES:  What’s it like to suddenly have this new and exciting genre and being one of the major players in the genre.  You’ve had huge names play out your tracks; does it give you a sense of accomplishment?

CRNKN: Yea, it’s super cool to be a part of something like that. It feels amazing to be able to do whatever with my tracks and have people respect and get into that. Also, just being considered to be in the same league with Floss, Baauer, UZ is unreal. It all just makes me want to work harder and push stuff in ways that they haven’t been push and make sure, as Dirty South Joe would say, that this isn’t a  “flash in the pan”.

DANKLES: What are your top 5 albums of all time?

CRNKN: (I listen to a shitload of music, so all of these other than the 1st one are sort of last minute picks, and not necessarily my fave albums. They’re just really really really good ones. )

1. Red Hot Chili Peppers – Stadium Arcadium
2. Muse – Black Holes and Revelations
3. Incubus – Morning View
4. Chase and Status – No More Idols
5. Red Hot Chili Peppers – Californication

DANKLES:  What have you been listening to lately, who is your current favorite artist(s)?

CRNKN: uhmmmm well, unfortunately, I haven’t had enough time to keep up to date with what’s cool outside of EDM currently. BUT, the new Kanye + Hova joint – Clique is sooooo good. Also, been listening to a fair amount of Childish Gambino thanks in part to one of my friends.

DANKLES:  If I’m not mistaken you are fairly new to touring, what is one thing you can’t leave home without when you’re traveling?

CRNKN: Hm. My sunglasses / headphones. Also, I really like to have gum on hand, random but true.

DANKLES: When you’re not producing music, how do you like to spend your time?

CRNKN: Outside man. One of my whole things is using the free time I have to be outside, and see all of the cool stuff around here in LA. I feel like people aren’t going outside as much as they used to and that’s sad. I love swimming, so I’m at the beaches here a LOT.

DANKLES:  I hear a lot of people saying your stage-name two different ways, do you want to clear the air?  Is it Crankin’ or Crunkin’?

CRNKN: I get this question SO much, and I have a pretty simple answer. It’s whatever you want. If you started calling me crunkin’ then stick with that. If you like crankin’ then do your thing. They’re all cool, and we all know who you’re talking about, I’m just grateful to have people saying my name at all.

THEDANKLES: haha I like that answer, now we’ve got just a few LAST WORDS questions for ya…
