Growing up in North London during the rise of the acid house scene in the 90’s, Alexis Raphael became entranced with the dark secretive vibes of underground house at an early age. With an embedded background in classical piano, Alexis strives to incorporate soul, funk, and disco into deep acid house using his own unique style. His debut track, “Spaceships” was featured on Hot Creation‘s Hot Waves Volume 1 Compilation, and was one of the highlights of the heavy-hitting compilation. This infectious song was highly charted and catapulted Alexis into the limelight of the underground. It’s extremely catchy bassline and excellent use of soul samples showed a promising future for the young producer and he did not disappoint. Releasing original material with the likes of the esteemed Neim Records, Lower East, and Nurvous Recordings this year, Alexis has been on a mission to establish himself at the forefront of the ever-evolving deep house scene. One of my personal favorite tracks of all time, his remix of “Nitelife,” lulls you in with a sexy vocal sample from Kim English, then explodes into a heavy bass-driven house track that’s perfect for the peak of a DJ’s set. Alexis’ live act is filled with twists and turns, adapting to the setting and venturing into funk, 80’s disco, and techno. With a slew of great music already in his portfolio, he’s definitely on my watch list for 2013.
