Boulder producers RKade (Ross Kiser) and Funkhouser (Matt Friedman), who collective make up Need & Necessity, released their debut EP entitled “Build Me Up” today via the Argentinian record label Spirit Soul Records. This album is everything that I love all in one and really show the promising future that the duo have. With Ross having a background in booty-tech production, and Matt having a background of nu-disco, the two fuse together to create some deep house tracks that are sexy, energized, bumpin party music. From the ass-shaking booty-tech found in their deep basslines, to the spine-shivering nu-disco synth stabs, to the excellent use of vocal samples that is very dirtybird-esque, this whole EP is an absolute deep house gem.
The EP starts off with the title track, “Build Me Up,” which begins sounding very tribal but then comes in with a truly menacing booty-tech bassline complimented by a great vocal sample. “Got What You Need” is next on the album, with a g-house sounding sample and funky bass that keeps a real ghetto feel throughout. The release then takes a turn into the deeper realm of house with “Deep Sea Playground,” which features a droning bass perfect for those late-night sets, before closing out with an upbeat remix of “Build Me Up” by Chaz Bronz.
Beyond their first EP, the production team have a shit load of banging material that’s due to release in the coming months, including one of one of my favorite tracks this year, “Tell Me That You Want It”. The duo play live on RWD.FM on a weekly basis, which can be streamed here. The two also preform live shows at the Absinthe House in Boulder nearly every Saturday night. So be sure to like them on Facebook, pick up your copy of Build Me Up, and see them get the dance floor bumpin at their next show!
