Last year in late January, Canadian duo Zeds Dead brought us the highly acclaimed Adrenaline. Following suit early in 2013, they deliver the Hot Sauce EP, a 6-song, multi genre beast that was released on Mad Decent this morning. Even before taking a listen, one can always be sure that new ZD will bring a mixture of sounds and genres weaved together with a technical prowess not duplicated by many.
The pair show off their skills in the styles we know and love to hear them produce, as well as dabbling in an assortment of new ones. The most surprising coming from the song “Mr.Sub,” a future garage track which takes ZD a step back from the grizzly in-your-face sounds and instead moves towards the more minmal and groovy side of bass music. My personal favorite is “Trouble.” When I initially discovered Zeds Dead, all they had were a few remixes that featured this dubby glitch bass which maintained melody while still hard hitting. They definitely recaptured the beauty of the way it works with this track.
The Hot Sauce EP really proves that no matter where EDM goes, Zeds Dead will always be in stride with the progression of music. After streaming, go to Beatport and help support an amazing group!
