Booty-teching heavyweights Justin Martin & Eats Everything (who received DJ Mag’s “DJ of the Year Award (UK)” for 2012) recently teamed up to produce one hell of an ass-shaking EP released on Hypercolour Records today (DJ Mag’s “Label of the Year” in 2012). Following the successful release of Justin Martin’s “Ghettos & Gardens” LP and a slew of banging EP’s from Eats Everything last year, Eats did an amazing remix of Justin’s “Ruff Stuff” and the two figured a collaboration might be in order. With vastly different, yet peculiarly similar sounds, the duo have produced one of the better collab EP’s I’ve heard!
The highly anticipated title track, “Feather Fight,” was highlighted during Eats Everything’s stellar Essential Mix in December and has been hotly talked about every since. The song itself is extremely high-energy with an expert use of chanting vocal samples layered over a droning bassline. A very jungle-y drum line give the song some “umph” and excellent sound animation is used throughout to really get the clubs poppin.
“Harpy” comes in next, taking the b-side on a darker but equally energetic journey. With an expert use of vocal samples, Justin Martin & Eats Everything really killed it with this one. Changing up the moods several times throughout the song, “Harpy” bounces from a heavy booty-tech sound to a more laid-back and progressive sound midway through. This “calm” section, which features an atmospheric feel and mesmerizing women’s vocals, doesn’t last for long though, as the duo drops back into their hyphy booty-tech sound at the perfect time. This one is a real dancefloor burner that will see massive playtime from all the deep house DJ’s this year.
With this being “the first of many collabo EP’s” we can’t even imagine what’s in store for the future!
