Well this was highly unexpected. The first song that the electro dream-pop duo have released since Shrines, one of my favorite albums of last year, is a cover of the one and only Soulja Boy. Corin provides a slow, tripped out beat for Megan to recite Soulja Boy‘s verses over, and if I didn’t know any better I would have thought that this was a Purity Ring original. Corin perfectly manipulates Megan’s voice with effects and auto-tune to create a beautiful pop song out of a terrible rap song, showing there’s really nothing that Purity Ring can’t do.
