SchoolBoy Q said it best on Twitter last night (although maybe not the most eloquently): “Every time drake drop a song everybody stop wat dey doin and find Head pHones lol cuHz 2 on.” This is literally what I did when I saw a new Drake track pop into my feed and immediately turned it up loud on the speakers. If you don’t like Drake, this is the song that would convert you. The conceptual follow-up to “9AM in Dallas”, Drizzy’s newest single is the perfect antithesis to the hugely popular “Started From the Bottom” (which already went Gold). While the single off the appropriately titled Nothing Was the Same saw Drake repeating a chorus until it became hypnotizing over an eloquently produced rap beat, “5AM in Toronto” brings a non-stop, dizzying verse over a beat produced by Boi-1da. When Boi-1da and Drake team up for another song after “Best I Ever Had” that got Drake to where he is today, you know they’re both going to bring it and they do. The fact that Drake isn’t even including this amazing track on the new album shows that while his second album proved his skills, his third is going to show that he’s here to stay.
