A few seconds into the first single from the new Sigur Rós album and it’s impossible to tell that this is the same band responsible for the relaxing, ambient sounds of their previous albums. The intro to the song hits you in the face with LOUD guitars that sounds like something Trent Reznor would make for a new sci-fi movie. But after about a minute of the song, Jónsi‘s beautiful Icelandic vocals come in as the perfect compliment to the distortion and chaos, which continues to trade back and forth for the duration of the eight-minute track. Sigur Rós‘ new album, Kveikur, comes out on XL records on June 17th, and the band describes it as “more agressive.” Judging by the sound of the first single and the new songs they have been performing live, aggressive is an understatement.
