If you’ve been following my posts, you’ve probably realized I’m pretty obsessed with R&B. Whether it be Frank Ocean, The Weeknd, Autre Ne Veut, Miguel, Jeremih, or JMSN; R&B has made a huge presence in the current music scene, and this is a trend I expect to continue. The production style of R&B has progressed tremendously over the past few years, and in my opinion, nothing accompanies a great R&B track like a dreamy, ominous down-tempo beat.
With the production credits of “Walk Away” going to JMSN himself, it’s safe to say he might have found his niche in an ever expanding alternative R&B scene. I’ve seen production for this style of vocalist progress from the Neo-Soul era of instrumental tracks morph into this current style of dark, electronic production. It’s really dope to see people like Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs make spacey, minimal beats for Banks to croon over. JMSN has a clever knack for finding, or creating, the perfect beat to accompany his seductive vocals. Stay tuned for forthcoming album, †Pllajé†, which is due Nov. 5th.
