The side-project known as Darkside isn’t some cheesy dubstep producer’s clever Star Wars inspired evil stage name, but instead Darkside is the side-project for experimental sounds of Dave Harrington and Nicolas Jaar.  If you’re just finding this out for the first time, it’s time to listen up.

Darkside made big news when the duo decided to remix Daft Punk’s Random Access Memories in its entirety back in June (read more and listen).  Then more recently, about a month ago, Darkside released the first eleven minutes of their new album, which we find out today is titled, Psychic (read more and listen).  “Golden Arrow” and “Paper Trail” are the first two actual singles we’ve seen from the project.  Good news, both are incredible.

“Golden Arrow” starts in an ominous way, sounds slowly trickle in and an organ playing a single note gains more and more volume.  Then a subdued thumping beat presses forward while static synth-work makes its way into the track.  The track then starts to take a more familiar form, guitar parts start to come together and a melody stays consistent.  “Paper Trails” starts with clapping and a couple of guitar parts.  Then you begin to understand the blues sounds and a unnamed vocalist enters the track.

Honestly, both tracks are amazing and I wouldn’t miss out on this release that will be available on October 8th.
