Active Child‘s Raptor EP is available via SoundCloud stream and iTunes preorder for the Oct 22 US release. Raptor takes an interesting approach with the intro track, “She Cut Me”, as it’s embodied by a suspenseful yet exhilarating instrumental accompanied by indistinguishable shouts and cries over a barreling drum line. The listener is taken on a sonic adventure through this EP as Active Child layers an array of emotions from track to track. Mikky Ekko‘s vocals compliment the dribbling synths and oscillating bassline on the energized “Subtle” as electrifying horns hop in about halfway through, giving life to this EP. The third track ,”Feeling is Gone”, brings the first taste of Active Child’s lofty, yet magnetizing vocals wetting the palette of their audience. Ellie Goulding was brought in for a highly emotional duet on the minimal, sorrowfully produced “Silhouette” which gives this EP the feeling of a emotional roller coaster. From one song to the next, the entire emotional landscape changes while Active Child dips into their diverse emotional pallet. The final two tracks are my personal favorites from the EP as Active Child takes an upbeat turn on “Calling in the Name of Love.” The final track, “Evening Ceremony” starts with few sonic qualities, but evolves as layer after layer are weaved in and out with each other. If you enjoy this stream grab a download off iTunes when it’s released next week.
