Canadian house and techno superheros Johnny White and Kenny Glasgow have long since been stars in the global electronic music scene. Since 2009 however, the two have adopted another powerhouse alias known as Art Department, acting as a platform to combine their raw and revolutionary underground sounds and bring listeners the best synth-driven house and techno around. As Art Department, Johnny and Kenny have established a groundbreaking new sound whose musical productions can often be found released on Johnny’s own imprint, No.19 music. The duo’s musical style is hard to define, as they constantly defy genre labels and find themselves mastering new genres by pushing the boundaries of their own sound.
This week, we offer you the pleasure of an extraordinary two and a half hour set from Art Department, recorded at this year’s Burning Man festival. Once again in the heart of the Playa, Art Department takes over the decks on the Robot Heart bus to give listeners an incredibly unconventional trip through the most experimental house and techno sounds out there. Containing hardly any of this years biggest tracks, the mix is truly an expression of what makes Art Department tick, namely their ability to captivate a crowd with unique elements of sound that bridge tracks together in a beautifully eccentric way. Personal highlights in the mix include Booka Shade’s remix of Moby’s ‘Dream About Me’ and Mind Against’s new track ‘Ceremonial’ off of his exceptional new EP, Atlanta.
