If you haven’t heard of producer BOOTS by now, that will change very soon. The multi-talented rising has earned himself the title of “Beyoncé’s Muse,” which doesn’t come easily. Otherwise known as Jordy Asher, the Miami native is responsible for working on over 80% of Beyoncé’s latest surprise album, with his talents ranging from aiding in producing mega hits such as “Partition” to even recording backup vocals on “Drunk In Love.” Plucked out of obscurity, BOOTS has already signed a deal with Bey’s hubby Jay Z on his record label Roc Nation. With less than ten thousand followers on his Soundcloud page, its astounding the amount of hype and mystery that has surrounded BOOTS over these past few months, and it doesn’t seem to be settling any time soon.
This past week after much anticipation, BOOTS released his very first mixtape entitled WinterSpringSummerFall. A sixteen track release, WinterSpringSummerFall finally allows us to see what the producer is capable of on his own terms, and he doesn’t disappoint. It’s a flawless mixtape that embraces a hip-hop style with BOOTS’ indie band background and love of experimental sounds. While there isn’t a flawed track among the group, some of the standout tracks include “Troubled World,” which features producer Son Lux, and BOOTS’ hip-hop edit of Shlohmo and Jeremih’s hit “No More.” Queen Bey herself even lend her famous vocals to WinterSpringSummerFall in its final track, “Dreams.” With his identity out in the open and a almost unbelievable resume to match, BOOTS is officially the one to watch in 2014.
