Equinox Stage
9:00pm – 10:00pm

Wesley Pentz, most famously known under the moniker, Diplo, is a must see at this year’s Spring Awakening Festival.  The mastermind and founder of Mad Decent Records will be taking over the Equinox stage for a performance you surely will not forget.  Diplo, I believe is the taste-maker for a good portion of the electronic scene and it’s relevant in his live sets.  You will find him bouncing around from genre to genre effortless as the audience dances along to his musical journey.  His latest EP, Revolution,  had huge success in the dance music world reaching number one on iTunes on the first day of release.  Pentz will be continuing the party at the MID night club on Saturday for an official Spring Awakening after party.  Grab tickets here!

Claude VonStroke

Saturday, June 14, 2014
The Hangar
8:30pm – 9:30pm

Head rooster and Dirtybird Records founder, Claude VonStroke, is making his second appearance at Spring Awakening.  This year is very special for this techno and house aficionado as his label, Dirtybird Records, will be featured on the artist curated stage on Saturday alongside Relief Records.  Hailing from Detroit, but finding his niche in the San Francisco dance scene, Barclay Crenshaw brings a mixture of party starting hooks, grooving bass lines and vocal samples to satisfy your dancing needs.  Last month, VonStroke released a remix album of his Urban Animal LP which features remixes from Solomun, Kill Frenzy, Jimmy Edgar, SCNTST and VonStroke himself to name a few.  I’m sure he will delve into some of these tracks when he takes over The Hangar tent for some intimate dirtybird fun.

Saturday, June 14, 2014
Bud Light Platinum Stage
5:30pm – 6:30pm

Alain Macklovitch, better known as A-Trak, had early success in his career by winning the DMC World DJ Competiton at 15  years old which led him to be one of the top turntablist in the industry.  Alian developed a notation system for scratching that opened many doors in his career as a DJ.  He began working closely with Kanye West and other hip hop artists in the industry where he eventually teamed up with fellow DJ, Nick Catchdubs, to form Fool’s Gold Records which is known for bridging the gap between electronic and hip hop music.  Duck Sauce, A-Trak’s disco house side project, released a new album  last month entitled Quack which I’m hoping he will play a few tracks from.  A-Trak is the only artist that will be performing twice at the festival giving you the option to see him play an intimate set at the artist curated stage or on the main stage on Saturday.

Regulators

Saturday, June, 2014
Equinox Stage
3:00pm – 4:00pm

The hometown boys, David Chang and Jake Johnson, most commonly known as Regulators, will be celebrating their second year playing SAMF.  This past year has been huge for the trap duo as they have released several massive remixes, my favorite being their Regulated edition of Vindata Ft. Kenzie May “All I Really Need.”  A couple months ago we had a chance to interview them for our most recent episode of “The Dankles’ TV” where we learned what it was like being an up and coming producer in the Chicago scene.  Recently,  Regulators have teamed up with Amsterdam trap all stars, Yellow Claw, on a track called “Red Lights” which has only been released on Yellow Claw’s mixtape #7.   At the end of May, they opened up for Yellow Claw at Sound Bar in Chicago playing one of the most wild and diverse sets that I have seen from the twosome to date.  Regulators are steadily climbing their way up the ladder in the scene as they were just featured in GTA’s “Sway In The Morning Mix” for their track  “Birth Control” by Mr. Carmack -(Regulators Billionaire Boys Club Bootleg).  Head over to the Equinox stage on Saturday afternoon if you are looking to get “turnt up.” Mount up!

Knife Party

Friday, June 13, 2014
Equinox Stage
9:00pm – 10:00pm

Rob and Garth, the duo that make up Knife Party and former members of Pendulum, are scheduled to bring the rage to their first ever Spring Awakening festival.  After several random tweets and Instagram posts over the course of the last few months, it looks like new music is done and ready to bring SAMF to a whole new level.  The high-powered twosome will grace Chicago for the first time since their appearance headlining Perry’s Stage at last year’s Lollapalooza festival.  Knife Party’s aggressive and fast paced style of heavy dubstep in combination with big room electro hits makes for an extremely high energy set that you will not want to miss. It’s been stated that they have been opening up their recent live shows with a brand new opening track and  have been featuring several unknown songs in their sets.  We can only hope some of the unknown will be announced and played during their set on Friday night.

Feed Me

Friday, June 13, 2014
Bud Light Platinum Stage
7:30pm – 8:30pm

Before Jonathan Gooch a.k.a., Feed Me, embarks on his big North American tour with “teeth” in August, Chicago will get a special DJ set at Spring Awakening that should be full of surprises. With tons of new music done and ready for release, we are hoping he will premier plenty of these new tracks during his highly anticipated main stage set Friday night. The English electro house and dubstep DJ hasn’t played a set in Chicago since his epic show with “teeth” during his last tour at the House of Blues.  Feed Me recently released a new track entitled “Time For Myself” which is a part of his forthcoming 4 track EP, Feed Me’s Psychedelic Journey, set to be released on his label, Soto Voce.
