Returning for it’s 4th year, Electric Forest Festival is back and bigger than ever. This multi-genre event most famously known as “The String Cheese Incident’s Festival” will grace Double J.J. Ranch in Rothbury, Michigan on June 26 – June 29, 2014. Insomniac and Madison House Presents did an amazing job with the variety of headlining artists this year with the likes of STS9, Ms. Lauryn Hill, Zedd, Tycho, Art Department, Matt and Kim, Cut/Copy and Zeds Dead to name a few. Joining the aforementioned headliners is the heart and soul of the festival, The String Cheese Incident, who will be playing four shows over the course of the festival with their Saturday night show always being the wildest. Now let’s not forget about one of the most talked about places at the festival, The Sherwood Forest, located in the heart of the venue grounds. By day, this is a place where you can relax in the hundreds of hammocks suspended throughout the trees, view art installations and appreciate the nature that Michigan has to offer. By night, the forest transforms into a place where you can lose all your inhibitions. Adorned with thousands of state of the art lights and lasers, multiple disco balls and playful decorations, The Sherwood Forest is almost impossible to describe. You can catch many secret sets, interactive exhibitions, live art and people of all shapes and sizes. Since we know this festival has so much to offer, we want to give you a deeper look into some of the special festival features as well as our list of must see artists to make your forest decisions that much easier. Head over to the official Electric Forest website for more details on the festival here.

Steve Angello will be making his Electric Forest debut closing out the Ranch Arena on Saturday night. Part of the former super-group, Swedish House Mafia, alongside Axwell and Sebastian Ingrosso, Steve Angello was named #38 on Dj Mag’s Top 100 DJ’s in the world in 2014. Steve just celebrated ten years of owning a more than successful record label, Size Records, that formerly represented some of the biggest DJ’s in the scene such as Tiesto, Laidback Luke, Sander Von Doorn and Avicci, and is now the home of Max Vangeli, AN21, Junior Sanchez, Tim Mason, Third Party, and Steve, himself. If you are looking for a progressive/electro house dance party at the forest, this is a set you will not want to miss.
The Glitch Mob
Thursday, June 26, 2014
10:15pm – 11:30pm
The Los Angeles based group, The Glitch Mob, earned their claim to fame by playing bleepy electronica and heavy hip-hop influenced baselines using laptops and MIDI controllers. Originally consisting of five members, but now down to three who go by the names edIT (Edward Ma), Boreta (Justin Boreta) and Ooah (Josh Mayer), made a huge comeback with their most recent album release, Love Death and Immortality. This album was released on February 11, 2014 and reached number one on Billboard’s Dance/Electronic Chart and number thirteen on the Billboard 200 which is a ranking of the 200 highest selling music albums and EPs in the United States. Along with new music, the trio created interactive concert visuals that the they control on the fly via apps. Thursday night in the Ranch Arena will be more than just your average show, it will be an experience that I believe Electric Forest will be talking about for years to come.

Born Gary Richards, but known by the moniker, DESTRUCTO, Electric Forest is in for a treat Saturday night at Tripolee. Gary isn’t just your regular DJ, but a man who wears many hats. In the beginning of his career, he began working as a concert promoter in the 1990’s warehouse scene. He produced many concerts/festivals during that time period including one that later became Electric Daisy Carnival. After having huge success booking up and coming DJ’s for his events, he was hand picked by legendary producer, Rick Rubin (named #8 on TIME magazine’s 2007 list of most influential people in the world), to become the head A&R (Artist & Repertoire) for the Electronic Division of Def American Recordings. As he ran the division, he began producing his own techno music under the name DESTRUCTO. To top it all off, he started a company entitled HARD events which became the producer of festivals such as Holy Ship!, HARD Summer and HARD Day of the Dead. This man is a legend in the music industry and if there is one DJ you see all weekend, let this man be it.

Hailing from Norway, Kyrre Gørvell-Dahll, a.k.a. Kygo, began his career at an early age as a pianist. After hearing “Seek Bromance” by Avicii, he delved into the progressive house scene where he learned what he liked and didn’t like in the electronic scene. He taught himself how to produce his own remixes and relied heavily on his piano skills to help him along the way. He stated in an interview with Billboard, “I always play piano over the original track. I often stay sitting up all night, and I usually finish it before I go to bed. I get into a zone where I’m really in my own world when I make music.” After getting millions of plays on his SoundCloud and YouTube accounts, the lead singer of Coldpay, Christ Martin, reached out to him to produce a remix to their song “Midnight.” Success then began to snowball and now Kygo finds himself getting more and more recognition for his remixes such as “Sexual Healing” by Marvin Gaye, “Wait” by M83 and “Let Her Go” by Passenger. If you are looking to hear a fresh producer with his own sexy, playful melodies, head over to the forest stage for some intimate Kygo fun.

For the first time ever, Chicago based producer, Manic Focus, will be joining forces at the Forest Stage with Pretty Lights Music label veteran, Michal Menert. John “JmaC” McCarten better known as Manic Focus has had an extremely productive past year. With the successful release of his most recent album, Distant Perspective, and his first ever headlining sold out show this past March at Concord Music Hall in Chicago, JmaC is proving with every release that he isn’t just your ordinary DJ. With remixes to tracks such as “Latch” by Disclosure and “Use Me” by Bill Withers, Manic Focus shows that he can take any genre of music and give it that electro soul twist with an emphasis on heavy bass lines. Co-Producer to Pretty Lights’ most well known album, Taking Up Your Precious Time, and founder to his new record label, Super Best Records, Michal has the perfect amount of emotion and soul for this musical collaboration. His most recent release entitled “Your Ghost” a part of his upcoming Elements EP released exclusively on Vinyl in April portrays just that and is beautifully displayed in the music video. “The One You Love” is the only collaboration the two have released to the public, but I’m sure if you are willing to get funky in the forest you will hear some unreleased tracks.
