React Presents’ inaugural lakeside festival, Mamby on the Beach, will grace Oakwood Beach on the Southside of Chicago this Saturday, July 11th and Sunday July 12th. What is Mamby you ask? Mamby began as a weekly party in the mid 2000’s that hosted the finest artists in Chicago’s music scene and will return to celebrate the beauty of summer in Chicago combined with the leading artists in the indie-dance, house and techno music worlds. Featuring over 40 DJs and live performing artists with a lineup consisting of headliners Empire of the Sun and Passion Pit, Mamby is the place to be this weekend if you want to hear quality music mixed with wonderful summertime vibes. ZHU

Saturday, July 11, 2015
The Tent
9:00pm – 10:00pm

Zhu

ZHU began his career anonymously in early 2014 with the release of his track “Moves Like Jackson” a remix/mashup of Outkast songs. After releasing “Superfriends” still with no artist or producer information, fans across the internet discovered it was Steven Zhu, a producer and singer from LA who has gone to great lengths to keep people focusing on the music rather than the creator. His sound encompasses various genres from house to disco to garage to hip-hop all while keeping a groovy driving force layered with falsettos and liquid synths. His debut EP, The Nightday, released through his label, Mind of a Genius, is soulful, sultry and entirely infectious as his lyrics paint a picture of the late night social scene. His song “Faded” was nominated for “Best Dance Recording” at the 57th annual Grammy Awards which is quite impressive for a producer who just emerged onto the dance scene. If you do one thing right all weekend, make sure it involves ZHU’s set in the tent on Saturday night as this will be his first ever Chicago performance.

Art Department

art department

In 2009, veteran Toronto producers Kenny Glasgow and Jonny White formed the duo, Art Department. For over five years, the pair of forward thinking underground producers created a trippy blend of deeper house and techno with Kenny Glasgow vocals. Their debut single “Without You,” dominated dance floors and international charts in the summer of 2010 becoming Resident Advisor’s “Track of the Year” and #1 track of the year at the 2011 Beatport awards. Two albums later and countless remixes led them to a level of success rarely achieved by underground artists. As of April, Kenny decided to part ways with Art Department, leaving the name Art Department in good hands with Jonny White, who will continue to perform under the moniker. Jonny will be closing out the festival in the tent on Sunday and I’m sure he will bring a slew of tracks from his label, No.19 music, as well as Art Department originals to keep you grooving all night long.

Autograf

Saturday, July 11, 2015
Main Stage
2:15pm – 3:00pm

Autograf

The trio known as Autograf have been doing some pretty incredible things to enhance the state of electronic music. Their sound could fall into the future house/tropical house genres, but what they are doing is so much more. With several Hype Machine number 1 releases, Louis Kha, Mikul Wing and Jake Carpenter treat every aspect of the music industry as a chance to turn it into art. From incorporating live, hand crafted instruments such as an acrylic, electric djembe with LED lights and a marimba into their music, to creating their own massive sized art installations for their stage production. Autograf creates feel good music that incorporates soul, live instrumentation and depth. Head over to the main stage on Saturday afternoon to kick off Mamby in the best way possible.

jphlip

Jessica Phillippe a.k.a. J.Phlip, will be bringing the Dirtybird records flavor to The Tent on Sunday evening. Born in Champaign just two hours South of Chicago, Jessica’s music took inspiration from the Chicago house scene and Detroit techno scene not to mention every genre in between. Her most recent release “Growl” premiered on Annie Mac’s Free Music Monday and is dark and infectious. As her success grows as an exclusive Dirtybird Artist, she continues to produce music and live sets that will have the dance floor rockin’ through the use of bouncy underground tracks. Look out for her forthcoming collaborative EP with Huxley set to be released later this summer!
