Now it has really been a minute since I brought you guys a big ol’ beat tape that really has really enveloped me once I got to listening through it. Just this morning Beat Maker Beat dropped this curtains on his latest SpaceKid project ‘E X I T I N S I D E’ and I am straight hooked on the direction he has taken this one. Coming at us from Saint Petersburg, Russia it makes me truly glad to see how the internet has proven it can extend our ears to all reaches of the globe. Encompassed in this twelve track forward thinking bass LP we are gifted with everything from head nodding beats to lush soundscapes that take you off into a completely different dream world. With only a few other artists lending a hand on this release a majority of what we find on E X I T I N S I D E is fueled by BMB SpaceKid himself. This is a truly unique release as it takes so many different genres and warps them all together into a beautifully flowing patchwork of glitched out synths, bending bass lines, and dissolving vocals. You can stream the LP via BMB’s Bandcamp below and definitely don’t sleep on getting each and every one of these tunes on rotation!

The Quack EP – What So Not

What So Not is the collaborative side project of Australian sensations Flume and Emoh, dedicated to the exploration of genres and sounds usually well outside of their respective production and feel. With a multitude of “trapstyle” and experimentally-driven 808-filled tacks released on their SoundCloud, they are continuously pushing the boundaries of modern electronic sound, and it has created a powerful niche for them in the current trap. Their latest EP entitled ‘The Quack’ has been released under the prestigious  OWSLA label as well as Sweat it Out records, and is already generating a lot of support despite it’s release on June 14th. The first track, titled ‘The Quack’, is an amalgamation of drunken bass stabs and mind-numbing bass melodies, similar to that of Mr. Carmack but with a very recognizable What So Not sound and percussion. The second tune,  ’High You Are’, is quite contrary to the first; it travels through ambient sounds and mesmerizing dutch house-esque synths until an explosive break of whistles, cowbell, and jungley noises erupts over the 4-on-the-floor house melody. Take my word, you can expect to be hearing these tunes (expecially ‘The Duck’) everywhere this summer, so be sure to support these two amazing artists and purchase their EP on it’s release June 14th!

Anamanaguchi

There has been a constant streaming of Brooklyn, NYC based group, Anamanaguchi, and their music has become somewhat of a soundtrack to my life in the past few weeks.  Ever since the group previewed their now recently released “Endless Fantasy” project, I haven’t been able to stray too far from their tracks.  They seem to compose my mind, center my thoughts, and provide a harmonic consistency that sometimes is capable of projecting my mind into another dimension and I feel like this music becomes like the background of the video game of my life as I go jumping for mushrooms to become taller (I haven’t played video games in quite some time, hence the old school Mario reference).  Possibly because of their major use of 8 bit, but most of Anamanaguchi’s tracks have an ambient, analog feel that are beautifully composed with harmonies that just seem to fall together effortlessly.  Not all of their productions give me the feeling that I’m wandering through a magnificent Zelda-esque world to discover, their works cover many genres and sounds, and go beyond just basic production, as a lot of cinegraphic elements are used on a number of their past tracks.

Andrew Aversa (a.k.a. zircon) is an award-winning, covert-ops audio specialist with headquarters located on the outskirts of Baltimore, MD. His top-secret blend of cutting-edge electronic-organic sound design, sonorous composition, and ultra-polished production values have yielded dozens of credits in the realm of video games.  A true sound-scientist at heart, Andrew is the lead producer and co-founder of Impact Soundworks, a sound design & sample library development company with an enormous list of users all over the world, including some of the most well-known video game, television and film composers in the industry. If he is not designing a new collection of critically-acclaimed instruments for this company, he can be found concocting synthesizer presets which are similarly widely-used.  With such an extensive background in sound engineering, its no surprise that although he is a young producer, that his studied talent has paid off as he excels with almost everything he dabbles in, from a complextro sound to trance to dubstep and everything in between.

If electronic music is the sound of future, then Dog Blood’s music is the sound of what comes next.  It rides a middle ground between so many genres and twists conventions to meet their needs instead of the other way around.  We’re of course talking about American dubstep producer, Skrillex and German techno innovator, Boys Noize; together they created the side-project, Dog Blood.  Only one release has been offered from the high-profile duo.  Their Next Order/Middle Finger EP contains just two tracks, but each has made waves in the last six months.  Their music is straight head-spinning, sounds that are never thought conceivable are blended together to create something entirely new and fresh.  I wish I was at Coachella just to hear this set.  Though the track list isn’t available, if you look hard enough you can probably find a good amount of these tunes.  One thing is for certain, I’m excited to hear what Dog Blood comes up with next.

The Bangerz is a six-man production team of DJ’s from San Jose, California with over 15 years of production experience under their belts.  They’ve won numerous titles, the 2000 ITF Western Hemisphere Team Championships, the 2001 DMC Region Championships and more.  A feat that is rarely done ever, The Bangerz performed with twelve turntables for a team routine in 1999 showing onlookers and turntable enthusiasts that this was no gimmick.  More recently, The Bangerz have had their music featured in McDonalds ad spots, The Simpson’s video game, America’s Best Dance Crew and Pepsi commercials. Their immediate accomplishments include a track that was in the Jabbawockeez Vegas show was then placed in the movie ProjectX.

In 15 years, the San Jose team of six has accomplished more than most have in their lifetime’s as musicians.  Today we get to premier a upcoming track from The Bangerz LP, PRiSM, that drops June 18th.  ”Beam”, the first track premiered off the album is a high-energy dance-floor ready onslaught of synth-worth and lush melodies.  Starting off the track we are given a sudden blast of distorted bass and a rapid-fire melody shooting off throughout the track at different moments.  Then, The Bangerz create a lush and friendly soundscape transition reminding me of sunny summer days.  We are suddenly whisked back up by the distorted beat that slowly but punctually moves the track from start to finish.  Enjoy this excellent tune from The Bangerz!

If some sultry down-tempo beats are what you need to get the blood flowing this morning I think Galimatias has a little something you need. Having debuted his most recent ‘Young Chimera EP’ earlier this month it has taken me some serious listening time to finally realize there’s a good lot of you out there that would equally enjoy this release. On this moist six track EP from this multifaceted Danish producer he has constructed a beautifully textured soundscape that is chock full all the drippy and lush vibes I have come to love from Galimatias. With the perfect amount of vocal sampling giving gas to each track it’s hard to not become fully encapsulated by all of the sounds we hear rounded up by this gifted producer. Whether it’s a bright sunny day or a little gray like I have outside my window this morning starting your day with this EP in it’s entirety will certainly leave you with positive vibes and a smile on your face. Get to streaming this bad boy over on Galimatias’ Bandcamp and be sude to support him by shelling out those 6 euros if you’re as absorbed by his sound as I have become.

Looking for something to really make those ears bug out first thing this morning? Love and Light has just recently cheffed up a smokin’ hot new remix for Vokab Kompany & Crush Effect‘s ‘Back to the Past’ and it certainly has all of the glitched out, slurppy, bouncy goodnes we love to hear from these guys. Both Love and Light and Vokab Kompany have their roots firmly planted out west and it seems that this was a great fusion to bring both of their unique sounds together. The boys at Savoy are back at it again!  This time the trio releases the EP they’ve been teasing, Thee Against Nature.  Savoy is comprised of Gray Smith, Ben Eberdt, Mike Kelly.  Each adding their own element to the Savoy collective and in turn giving their audience some fresh and unique music.  If you’ve been a fan of Savoy since the beginning you’ll remember their both their “Get Some Action” remix and their epic “Money For Nothing” remix from years ago.  More recently Savoy released their Personal Legend EP and their track with Bright Lights, “I Dare You”.

Today marks the release of Three Against Nature, possibly Savoy best effort yet.  The four track EP is packed with more than you’d expect.  Starting the EP strong with “Say Yes”, a funk-oriented track that combines the sounds of house, electro and a bit of heavy bass.  Next is “Make Me Feel”, a vocoder laden track that will leaving obviously thinking of Daft Punk.  ”I Wouldn’t Mind” is a synth-heavy track that features distant yet catchy vocal bits.  Closing out the EP is “You & I”, featuring funky guitar bits right off the bat.  The vocoder returns once again too, and the track focuses it’s electro sound around a continuous distorted guitar lick.  Don’t hesitate, download this new EP from Savoy right now!

We still have yet to see a release date or a tracklist for Earl Sweatshirt‘s debut album, Doris, but we do have a few singles (“Chum”, “Whoa”) that have done nothing but increase the already enormous hype for the album. Back in March, videos starting floating around the internet of Earl Sweatshirt performing new songs live. One of them that surfaced was from a show at the Low End Theory, where Earl Sweatshirt brought out Mac Miller and played an incredibly raw track that saw the two swapping verses over a dark, spooky beat.

Today Earl Sweatshirt released the official track, and it is even better than I had imagined it to be after hearing the live version. The randomblackdude-produced beat is heavily influenced by the southern trill rap scene, and further accentuates that vibe by pitching down the two rappers’ voices down an octave. The result is something that could have been on an early Tyler, the Creator mixtape that sounds incredbly raw while simultaneously boasting precise production.

Between this and Mac Miller‘s recent “Watching Movies”, I am actually incredibly excited to see what the young rapper has to bring in his next release, Watching Movies With the Sound Off, and I think it goes without saying that Doris is my most anticipated album for 2013- here’s for hoping we get a release date soon.
